self-doubt

this week is one of e few times i am wide awake and paying full attention in all lectures.. but alas, i could not understand most of wat e lecturers say!! although it can be said to be normal, i feel it spells a bigger problem for me..

i think this sem is slowly becoming a 2nd last sem.. most of my time was spent doing assgns n projs with help from frens until i personally dunno how much i know at e back of my mind.. have this naggy feeling im rank among the bottom for some of my classes..

then i dun hav time to revise all my stuffs, din realli have time for revision these 3 to 4 weeks.. who can when u hav 4 deadlines in one week and another 3 in e subsequent weeks, n 4 of them are proj deadlines? haiz, with exam being 27 days away i better buck up..
if not i think there is a high chance that i will kiss my 2nd upper honours sayonara liaoz..
aja aja fighting!! =)

Weekend Special: Taiwanese Actor: Zheng Yuan Chang Joe

A rather versatile actor, having acted in an array of characters ever since this model launched his acting career. roles include a rich kid, a pool player and a proud genius.. however i like him in "It started with a kiss" (Taiwan Version) the most!! True, the story is dragging, boring and predictable at times, the chemistry between him and the female lead, Lin Yi Chen Ariel is great!! love their scenes together and his cool look when he is not smiling.. =D
n Joe is one tall guy, standing at 1.88m.. wow.. wonder wat he did to attain such height.. must get 'mi fang' from him.. lol..

Wee & Wee affair

has been too caught up with sch work to catch up on current affairs recently.. jus know abt this W&W incident last night..
hmm wat can i say?

one is too dependent on govt.. come on la, u r in ur thirties n a grad somemore leh.. why be so afraid n not take actions on ur own??
this merely reflects e general trend in spore society...
guess majority of us are too spoilt such tt we onli know how to complain n hope govt will do something about it while we jus sit n wait for things to get better for us..
wat happens when it dun? complain more lor..
i must admit tt at times i do fall into this mentality but am veering away from tt, thanks to my uni edu =D & e belief tt God (or any divine for tt matter) onli help those who help themselves.
wats e use of whining n grumbling? u r jus wasting ur time n opportunity cost of doing nothing can be high so buck up n do something for urself man!!

then e other i dunno whether to say a spoilt brat tt have total disregard to others or a navie who thinks too highly of herself.. yes, u can be good in academic n i dont deny tt since not all cats n dogs can go to RJ but good academic results = elite? & on wat basis are u so sure tt u are going to do well for the rest of yr life n become cream of e crop/elite? 小时了了, 大未必佳。。
n esp in today society's, whether u are successful/rich/got status has most prob nothing to do with ur sch results/how much you know but rather who you know/how do u handle ppl etc.. aka all e soft skills.. but by looking e way she write e post, i guess she's lacking in tt..

anyway i think its worrying tt e daughter of an MP is behaving this way.. din mean to over generalise but from here do we get a glimpse of wat e so called upper class kids behave? if this is considered normal, then i fear for spore 15-20 yrs down e road...

yes we did it!! =)

aft a hectic week, all my deadlines were gone..
phew, finally can take a break today!

both ec4393 n ec4341 went well! *yay*
but i need to buck up on my presentation skills.. still fall into the trap of stumbling and singlish.. perhaps i will do better in OMG presentation..
n for yesterday n monday, it felt like going to work.. but instead of heading to raffles place i went to NUS.. hmm, dun think i even wear so formal (long sleeve blouse + skirt + high heel) so frequently to work then.. at most its jus once a week..

then ec4394 class complain tt we spoil e market since both grps tt presented on mon wore formal.. behavourial game theory ya?? =P but my grp realli feel that u cant realli be presentable if u dun wear formal.. hmm..
even dr wong joked tt he felt ashamed of his attire.. lol..
anyway realli enjoyed myself in e ec4394 proj..
shared much laughter as well as headaches.. just when we thought we understood e paper some minor details threw us into doubt again.. nevertheless we achieved a good understanding of e paper..
n dr wong like our presentation! *happy* our effort paid off! KL & SX are brillant in e presentation.. hmm, must learn from them! must realli thank my team mates for making it happen.. to ET, KL, SC, SX - we seem to have good mo qi leh.. all wore white based shirt on mon.. & thanks a million! ec4394 wont be e same w/o u all!! =) lets join forces again in ec4102 ya?? hee..

then for ec4341, its a pity tt no one record our presentation... KC realli exceeded my expectation of his ability to create jokes.. thought he was already lame n crappy enuff durin rehersals.. but he is really at his peak during e actual presentation with his "im receving mails from everyone in e union which amounts to 14,000", "my wife cant sleep bcos of tt u know", "they promised to send me hate mails everyday" etc.. even though im one of e cast i couldnt keep a straight face.. n he appeared so natural! pei fu pei fu..
n poor Mr VP, kena arrowed by Mr President every now n then.. but they seem to have pretty good mo qi such tt Mr VP gave funny ans in response.. hah..
to CT, ET, KC & SC - never regretted working with u all, we certainly work well as a grp.. thanks for everything! hope our presentation will go down as one of the classic, along with KL grp's presentation.. hee..

okie, nid to get my beauty sleep liao..
then tml will start to piah my other deadlines.. haiz.. but e good thing is tt it wont not as mad as these past few days..

The Greatest Advice

Got this from my fren's blog.. find it v meaningful..

THE GREATEST ADVICE -Rick Warren, the Purpose Driven Life

Don’t date because you are desperate.
Don’t marry because you are miserable.
Don’t have kids because you think your genes are superior.
Don’t philander because you think you are irresistible.

Don’t associate with people you can’t trust.
Don’t cheat. Don’t lie. Don’t pretend.
Don’t dictate because you are smarter.
Don’t demand because you are stronger

Don’t sleep around because you think you are old enough & know better.
Don’t hurt your kids because loving them is harder.
Don’t sell yourself, your family, or your ideals.
Don’t stagnate!

Don’t regress.
Don’t live in the past. Time can’t bring anything or anyone back.
Don’t put your life on hold for possibly Mr. Right.
Don’t throw your life away on absolutely Mr. Wrong because your
biological clock is ticking.

Learn a new skill.
Find a new friend.
Start a new career
Sometimes, there is no race to be won, only a price to be paid for some of life’s more hasty decisions.

To terminate your loneliness, reach out to the homeless.
To feed your nurturing instincts, care for the needy.
To fulfill your parenting fantasies, get a puppy.
Don’t bring another life into this world for all the wrong reasons.

To make yourself happy, pursue your passions & be the best of what you can be.
Simplify your life. Take away the clutter.
Get rid of destructive elements: abusive friends, nasty habits, and
dangerous liaisons.
Don’t abandon your responsibilities but don’t overdose on duty.

Don’t live life recklessly without thought and feeling for your family
Be true to yourself.
Don’t commit when you are not ready.
Don’t keep others waiting needlessly.

Go on that trip. Don’t postpone it.
Say those words. Don’t let the moment pass.
Do what you have to, even at society’s scorn.

Write poetry.
Love Deeply.
Walk barefoot.
Dance with wild abandon.
Cry at the movies.

Take care of yourself. Don’t wait for someone to take care of you
You light up your life.
You drive yourself to your destination.
No one completes you - except YOU.

It isn’t true that life does not get easier with age.
It only gets more challenging.
Don’t be afraid. Don’t lose your capacity to love.
Pursue your passions.

Live your dreams.
Don’t lose faith in God.
Don’t grow old. Just grow YOU!

When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you’ll never get back.
Your time is your life. That is why the greatest gift you can give to
someone is your time.
Relationships take time and effort, and the best way to spell love is
T-I-M-E because the essence of love is not what we think or do or provide for others, but how much we give of ourselves

Weekend Special: Sizzling HOT K Drama - Jumong

has been hooked to this drama.. but din intend to watch it in e 1st place cos its a whopping 60 episodes!!! but curiousity got e better of me (cos it is breaking tv records and the No 1 rated drama of the yr) and wat's next is history.. once i start, i jus cant stop.. lol.. it is still showing in S Korea right now and i expect this to be yet another classic period drama, after Jewel in the Palace..
Anyway this is the synopsis of the drama..

The story begins in 108 BC, during a time when Gojoseon (Old Joseon) finally succumbs to defeat after a long battle with the Han nation, a time when the remnants of an old empire must face their fate as a people without a nation and without voice, a time that calls for the rising of a people's hero.
It is during this calamitous time that a love blossoms and leads to the birth of Jumong (Song Il-Guk), who will be Buyeo's prince. He is soon persecuted by the greedy faction within the palace headed by the Queen (Gyeon Mi-Ri), who is consumed by jealousy, and the power-hungry royal advisor to the King (Lee Jae-Yong). Yet, through his trials and tribulations, and with the love of three women, the once weak and careless Jumong transforms into a hero and, as recorded in history, becomes the founding monarch of the kingdom of Goguryeo (2nd century BC - 688 AD). But a hero is not one without sacrifices, and this story details such losses, through the tears of Jumong's mother Lady Yoohwa (Oh Yeon-Su), as well the merchant girl Soseono (Han Hye-Jin), who is incessantly pursued by Jumong's greatest adversary and half-brother, Prince Daeso (Kim Seung-Su)...

and time to move on to the drama pics!!

the haze is back!!!

after almost a decade, the haze makes a return to spore..
heard tt this time round is not due to the farmers burning their fields... rather it is the ultra dry weather leading to forest fires..
whatever the reason, it still affect singaporeans life.. n it is getting worse by the day.. on wed, it is only e smell that is evident.. then yesterday im shocked to find that buildings within 100m is in a blur..
jus hope that this time round, it wont be as bad as what happen in 1997.. back then e PSI hit 200+.. n meanwhile i will become a potato couch, only going outdoor when necessary.. hah

there is also another worrying happening in spore.. there seems to be a spread of mass illness in spore schools.. at first is AMKSS and initially the authorities thought its a food posioning incident.. but it is found to be gastric flu and the hygiene of the canteen is in doubt..
right now standford pri is facing a similar situation.. hundreds are affected and quite a few are current PSLE students.. oh no, their performance in the ongoing PSLE will definitely be affected.. n pri sch students tend to have poorer immunity system than their sec school senoirs, so feel that the school needs to be very cautious n must pinpoint the cause of this mass illness fast..
finally latest news is that close to 30 people in ACS(I) were sick...

anyway im thinking if the canteen is found to be the cause again, are the hygience of the school canteens on red alret mode? i hardly heard of such cases until recently when a few students of AMKSS (if my memory serves me well) fell sick due to food poisoning.. then why is it that MOH or relevant authorities couldnt locate potenital harmful germs back then? n how come out of a sudden, there is a lapse of cleaniness in canteens, or rather, schools? i thought spore step up its hygiene standards in public places such as hawker centre, bus interchange, schools etc and launch the 'Singapore OK!' program ever since the outbreak of Sars, so why is there incidents like these happening now?? i jus hope my doubts can be clarified soon and may these unfortunate incidents be the last cases..

misc stuffs...

quite a num of happenings these past few days..
nuclear, gambling, hip-hop, lectures...

1. seriously dunno why North Korea announces that it will try out nuclear bombing.. doesnt she know that it will invite threats of wars and probably more economic sanctions?? or she jus wanted to show its might?? or is it bcos she predicted that US can do nothing to her tts why she is not afraid of announcing??

north korea, IMO, has been the not-so-cooperative partner in the recent 6 table talk.. issit some kind of protest due to possible neglect from allies China & Russia?? i guess that is for everyone to guess and for N Korea to know.. =D neutral towards N Korea but realli feel for her people.. actually communism is not a all-bad thing.. it actually ensures equality and with good governance, the people can enjoy decent standards of living!

take China for example.. although the disatrous Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution brought a lot of hardship to the chinese, excluding that period, it is on average not bad.. i read it somewhere that although everyone is poor, u cant find a super poor without food or clothing.. in the non-economic front such as social indicators, i can say CCP did rather well.. the infant mortality rate now is below the rate of other developing countries.. the chinese life expectancy is on par with developed nations.. the female literate % is much better than countries eg India.. so even though the economic growth is not impressive, i personally feel that there is decent standard of living for the chinese. furthermore, i am for the view that economic growth shd not be the end of development, it is jus a mean to the ultimate goal, social development..

but communism can go very wrong when the leaders decide to devote most of the resoucres into a few sectors such as defence, as i suppose in the case of N Korea.. actually N Korea is not alone, most communist countries IMO somehow went down the same route allthough the extent of this 'obession' varies across countries.. wat this means is that few resources are avaliable for other industries such as consumer goods, resulting in wide scale food shortages and hence nation-wide famine..

still scratching my head why the leaders decide to do so.. perhaps they like to consolidate their power?? or to resist international pressures?? or wanted to prove to the world that she can do it implying 'im not a small fry/ push over so sit up and notice me'??
but is it worth it?? millions of people are suffering and dying!! shouldnt people comes first for the leaders?? jus like what the chinese usu say “饭都吃不饱,哪来有气力做别的事, 更何况打仗?”

hope that this saga will end amaciably.. the last thing i wanted is another war.. life is already hard enough for the N Koreans, pls dun 雪上加霜。。。

2. now to gambling, a majority dun treat 4D & Toto, mahjong as gambling.. can understand the results.. with 4D & Toto so prevalent, it is no surprise that people regard them as leisure activities.. some people even beautify such behaviour with pharses like 'im a risk lover, issit tt wat e govt likes to see?'

for me, my view is that so long as money is not involved, it is not really gambling cos without $$$, where's e kick?!? n perhaps oso bcos i engage in such activities quite frequently eg 'social' big 2, 'hygeine' mahjong (but bridge is NOT gambling at all) so justifying my behaviour.. =P

3. P65 MPs are performing a short hip hop stint for next yr Ching Gay..
first thing that comes to my mind, hip hop is still e 'in' thing?? i know it is a few years back but right now im not too sure..
next thought, are they trying too hard trying to connect with the young??
i dunno, i tend to view it positively as they do care to make an effort but do they need to go to such extent?? i will appreciate more if they go down to various tertiary institutions more frequently to chat with the students, not in form of talk, but as a tour chat or something like that.. din remember any of them coming down to NUS although a majority of them grad from here..
maybe its the term called 'image'.. but image can be elusive too.. if u do nothing, ppl will say u r dull etc.. but if u try too hard, people can say u r fake.. all in all, it takes lotsa time n effort to build one.. didnt the super branded brands such as LV took yrs to do so?? 我认为不作做是建立自己形象的不二门法。。 it is very tiring to be whom you are not.. imagine you need to do stuff that is not jus not you, not only you feel tough, onlookers can sense it too..

4. ec4394 lectures are getting more interesting by the week.. bcos of e ppl there.. i like my grp of frens lots! neva fail to have fun in their company.. i think we are the 'siao' big grp in other ppl's mind ba.. cos we always occupy the last 2 rows and then went on to create noise/ laughter.. esp the past mon.. think KC is jus out of mind then.. crack us up like anythin with his 'theory' of mug.. KL oso chip in with his 'long olive oil, short palm oil'.. seriously cant judge a book by its cover.. i used to think SX is the serious kind, but a fair share of laughter during proj meetings is initiated by him..
i know most guys can be rather crappy but i used to think that onli astro guys are the most crappy ones, esp Jerm.. looks like i need to change my perception very soon.. astro guys, beware, u all have strong rivals coming up.. hah..
at least for now, my hypothesis still holds.. however, i need a larger sample size.. lol..

Weekend Special: Korean Actor - Kim Jeong Hoon

For those who have watched Goong (Princess Hours) before, im sure either u r a big fan of Shin or Yul.. For me, i kind of support both.. =D
Kim Jeong Hoon was Prince Yul in Goong..
looves his puppy eyes!!!
& his facial expression in Goong always have a slight tinge of sadness... ohh, make every gurl wants to go up and hug him!!!
i want to go S Korea and see all e shuai ges!! lol..

Photos credit: www.soompi.com/forums "Kim Jeong Hoon" thread, www.imbc.com
